Properly northern, properly pioneering
CMS Certificate in Pioneer Mission
In September 2020 we began running the CMS Certificate in Pioneer Mission in the Northern Centre. It is designed to give a foundation for pioneering mission that relates to a place, a context, a community, to life on the road, to the real world, to somewhere where mission is happening on the ground. Everyone who does the certificate will be in a community that they care about and want to help make good through joining in with God’s mission in that place. And it’s practical. While it is not accredited through any university students will engage with reading and demonstrate learning throughout the course.
Here, Dr Allison Fenton from the Carlisle Diocese team talks to Jonny Baker about the forthcoming training based at the northern centre:
There are six modules that will run over weekends so it can be done alongside whatever your job or rest of life involves. They are:
- Pioneer mission
- Doing theology
- Church in mission
- Reading the Bible
- Missional leadership
- Mission entrepreneurship
You’ll also be in a small group throughout the course.
Here’s what we hope you’ll gain through doing it
- a foundational understanding of mission discipleship
- begin to be able to live that out
- be able to begin to read and map your own area
- develop an understanding of your calling and the gift you bring through who you are
- to grow in confidence in who you are
- be doing that with others in a Christian community that is mission focused
- be aware of helpful things to put in place to support you
- use your imagination
- grow in prayer and friendship with God
- understand the mission story of the bible and be reading it
- begin to do local theology
- learn the skills for getting things started
- understand the pioneer gift and how you relate to it
- grow in confidence to share the good news of Jesus Christ
Do register your interest and we’ll be in touch to let you know more.
