CMS Oxford Pioneer Open day on 14 July 2020

We have added an extra open day – your last chance to join us on Zoom is this coming Tuesday 14 July.

We were very busy last month with another open day and open evening for potential pioneer students and a day especially for DDOs, all on Zoom.

DDOs (Diocesan Directors of Ordinands) are responsible for overseeing all the processes involved with vocations, discernment, and initial training for ordained ministry in the Church of England. Almost 15 per cent of our students on our university courses in this academic year are ordinands.

Most of our students are not ordinands but are studying as lay pioneers, looking to expand and enrich their skills.

All our students, while studying with us and after leaving us, take a pioneering and mission-minded approach to their work. I think many of our students very much enjoy the learning while on the job aspect of pioneer study at CMS in Oxford!

So how did these Zoom events go? Cathy Ross, our Oxford head of Pioneer Mission Leadership Training and postgraduate programme coordinator, told me: “People who joined us for the open days were enthusiastic about the pioneer videos and seeing the map of where pioneers were located. They liked the flexibility and mix of modules, and also the fact we are a community of pioneers.”

We enjoyed our Pioneer open days so much we felt we needed one more for this coming academic year and so our final open day for 2020 (preparing for a September start) will now be: Tuesday 14 July – 11am-12:30pm on Zoom.

Please do sign up to join us and bring your own coffee and sandwiches; we’ll provide all the info!

Although, if you are thinking it’s just sitting back and being informed, our Zoom open days are about much more. We put you into breakout groups so you can share about what you are doing. You are right at the heart of your own journey so you will be at the heart of your study too. We want to find out about you and so come prepared to share, unless break out rooms are really not your thing, in which case you can just speak to one of the team, by Zoom or phone.

Either way, here is what you need to do if you think this is of interest to you. Please:

  • Send your enquiry or ask your contact to get in touch on
  • Ask us whatever you like; once we have your email we can begin a dialogue
  • Book your place on our last open day: Tuesday 14 July – 11am-12:30pm
  • We will send out all you need electronically before the open day, items to read and the chance to watch some inspiring short video clips
  • Plus, a link to join via Zoom

Something to share with friends

If you do know any pioneers in your social circle/family/work colleagues or people in your worshipping community, please do tell them about us!

Our awards are in Theology, Ministry and Mission and are accredited by Durham University.

Whether your interest is in a one-year certificate or postgraduate certificate; a two-year diploma or postgraduate diploma; or the full BA or MA – we’d love to hear from you.

In fact, you may not even know yet exactly what course you are interested in, you just want to be included. So do join us on Zoom and find out more!

Pioneer training is our thing – we are known for doing it well!

We hope you can be part of this coming pioneering academic year at CMS Oxford, in a big way or in a small way.

Please do make contact, it doesn’t commit you to anything. We already have people booked in but we do have space!
