Hannah Davis is one of our pioneer students who works with young people on Barton in Oxford. The Baptist Church is looking for a half time minister for the emerging community church. They say it could be a training post. If you are a Baptist, looking to train how about doing that and training with us at the same time? The job spec is here. And info and how to get in touch is here. I asked Hannah to say a bit more about it and this is what she says…
Hannah Davis, a CMS Pioneer student, works part-time as a youth worker with Thrive Barton, an initiative of Christian Charity Innovista. Thrive Team partners with Barton Community Church (BCC), where Hannah goes to church, connecting young people with the wider community. BCC was planted by Headington Baptist Church in 2011 with 12 individuals now having intentionally moved into Barton estate, mostly in their 20s and 30s. Each week around 35 people come to Sunday@5, BCC’s Sunday expression of church, where we share a meal together, and learn something of God and faith through talks, discussion, creative prayer, and constant surprises.
BCC now needs leadership to help it grow into more independence, to deepen its fellowship, to find appropriate ways of discipleship, to reach out to all segments of the Barton community, to develop the gifts of its members so that it can ‘build itself up’ and to establish its leadership structures. BCC is a very mixed church in terms of Christian experience, educational opportunities and social background. It needs to find those ways of being church for the whole mix and to do that well more of the time.
So we are looking for someone to lead us forward! It is a very exciting opportunity, and it is such a warm and wild (in the best sense) church community to be a part of.
