Kim offers a robust response to the Archbishop’s lent book

It’s kind of depressing that there are still area of the church that are negative about fresh expressions of church and want to hold on to the parish system as the answer to everything. If it was we clearly wouldn’t need the energy that we do in mission! It’s even more depressing that the Archbishop’s lent book has such a take in it as by implication people will conclude that’s what the Archbishops support or endorse – hopefully they will make some kind of response to say other wise? But meantime Kim Hartshorne, one of the pioneer ordinands training with us gives a wonderful response…

  1. Bishop of Bradford Nick Baines has given his view, which may endorse Ben Quash’s views, in this post on the Fresh Expressions site. I think the idea that new forms of church exist to further networks of ‘peeople like me’, whereas the parish system is equally accessible to everybody, are the two misconceptions that I would want to discuss. The idea that pioneering has no ‘boring bits’ also amuses me as I fill out my annual return to the charity commission and take out the rubbish!
